DAY 21: PLANNING AHEAD

Today we had plans to travel. 3 weeks into the challenge, the thing that seems to be the hardest part is avoiding conveniences like Wawa or fast food for the kids.

This weekend’s trip to New York meant driving through PA, NJ, and NY. I like stopping for a little break to grab water, an iced tea, or maybe a snack or two. But this trip, I didn’t want to give myself that option.

So, I planned ahead! Here are the top three ways I prepared so I would not have to fall into my usual trappings of overpaying for crappy food and junk at the rest stop:

  • We ate a full meal ahead of time. I made sure to feed all traveling in our party so no one would feel the uncomfortable, all-too familiar pang of hunger
  • I packed lunch items and snack foods. This is the simplest, dumbest, most obvious thing ever, isn’t it?
  • I made myself a promise. This is what the commitment of the challenge is all about. I promised myself to stick to it. Sticking to your guns takes a little planning. THAT’S ALL.

We made it to Long Island unscathed, unaffected by my usual shopping habits, and on the path toward change.

How is the challenge going for you? Fill me in! I want to hear everything! Pass along your experience so others can learn from your journey! As always, share your words, share the peace, and namaste every day.
