After the kiddos fall asleep, we always find peace. The house grows quiet and the stillness reminds me that I will somehow conjure energy for another day of the busy chaos children sometimes (all the time) bring.
Every once in a while, there is an added unexpected pleasure in our evening.
Last night, Hubs disclosed the purchase of fruity popsicles that awaited us in the freezer.
“Meet you on the porch?” I said.
“Of course.”
We snuck away from the quiet of the house for the quiet of the porch. The air had cooled from its 80-something degrees, a slight breeze picked up, and the lightning bugs arrived.
I grew up in a neighborhood where rolling grasses were not available, making the visibility for lightning bugs different. Their little bodies camouflaged into streets and sidewalks, trees, and shrubs so that finding them was not “difficult” but certainly a task that took concentration, like staring at a Magic Eye picture for ten minutes before your eyes refocus.
As dusk emerged, the bugs fluttered as far as the eye could see. They floated and swayed and I swooned over them. They’re so graceful and lovely and I relished the abundance.
The popsicles were a delight, too. Sweet, but not too sweet. Cold, but not too cold (ie- no brain freeze). And we ate them so much faster than I remember popsicles lasting for. But our peaceful little moment was perfection. I was grateful and continue to be. For peace abounds from so many places. And when it is discovered in an unexpected surprise, I’m especially tickled.
What brought you peace this week? Share the peace.
