Peace on the Field

I’m a student again.

Field life…..

I’m learning something new.

This fall, our kiddos had a sports schedule that was demanding (grueling?) according to my standards.

The children get home from school around 4:20 p.m. I make dinner so we can eat early, which feels weird and is mostly resisted by the crowd because none of us are geriatric yet.

Then, 2-4 nights a week, we dash to games, practices, scrimmages, etc. There are playgrounds for the kids not playing in the games. Everyone is on-to-go. Everyone is participating in something. Everyone is exhausted.

But I am the greatest resistor of all.

I don’t like the uptick in our schedule. I don’t like the loss of freedom. I don’t like the rushing and constant going. I am not handling it well.

Sometimes I look at Hubs and say, like a child, “I don’t like this. I don’t think I’m a Sports Mom.”

Thankfully, he is more mature and knows better.

Sometimes, peace lies on the other end of change. It sits, waiting for me to figure it out.

Build a new routine.

Learn something new.

Be the beginner and find a new mastery.

So, here I am.

If I listen carefully, I find peace on the edge of my discomfort. After the sandwiches are packed and we’ve found all the cleats, the shin guards, the jerseys, the water bottles, and the snacks. When we get to the field and the kids are playing and learning and growing, Mama Bear finds peace.

It is taking practice, but I’m learning.

What brought you peace this week? Share the peace!
