I hate to admit this (why, I’m not quite sure). But sometimes (strike that, I mean MORE than sometimes) I find peace in saving money. We live on a budget and I feel really at ease when I discover something for LESS.
While I love walking into a store, chatting with sales associates, and trying out new products, sometimes my decisions come down to $$$. That means dollars and cents. And a lot of the time lately, Amazon wins.

moisturizer
I have a hard time with moisturizer because a lot of it can be very heavy. Over the years, I’ve really come to like Clinique’s Moisture Surge. I can get this at Sephora in the 1 oz. jar for around $20 when they’re running a sale. But sometimes it’s as much as $30, plus tax. Amazon has this product for $14.36 right now, and that’s without shipping. It’s a small savings, but every penny counts.
eyeshadow
My little sister got me turned on to Urban Decay products a few years ago. I feel like Urban Decay was around before anyone else was saying, “Cruelty Free Vegan Makeup,” in their ads. This company offers really beautiful eyeshadow palettes. The variety is nice and my face doesn’t break out from use. Sometimes Sephora will run deals, making the price on Amazon comparable. The only difference is the speed at which it arrives, and the fact that I don’t have to pay for shipping when I use Prime. I love this eyeshadow and highly recommend it.
mascara
Urban Decay changes its mascara with enough frequency that I notice it. Even so, their mascaras are always pretty amazing, offering a full lash and a look that lasts all day. This year, Amazon is running a crazy Cyber Monday deal, offering the Perversion Volumizing Mascara for $10. I have never seen anyone beat that. Ever. So, I bought a bunch. Check it out!
brow filler
So, fun fact….I have no eyebrows. In the 90s, everyone wanted super thin eyebrows, so I waxed mine (shaped them?) and now I have nothing. The fact that I have fair skin doesn’t help. I need eyebrows. It’s totally a thing. Women have a right to eyebrows. Finding the right stuff for this task is NOT easy. I used to use a pencil by Laura Mercier. But, then I learned about Benefit. I have since tried both their eyebrow pomade and the Micro-pen. For now, the pen is working well enough that my husband doesn’t complain that I look like a weirdo, so I go for that. This shizzle is not cheap. The difference on Amazon is only a dollar when I compare it against Sephora, but, hey, some days every dollar counts!
bronzer
So, I didn’t know bronzer was a thing until my little sister told me, “This is what I wear when I don’t want to look like a sick, ghostly person. You should, too.”
Enter: Tarte Bronzer. I like to wear a color called Park Avenue Princess. I learned fast that applying bronzer is all about the right brush. I got myself a huge brush and the bronzer application process has gone smoother since. This is one of the only products that sometimes is not cheaper on Amazon. But, usually it’s pretty close. If I’m buying in a hurry and need something fast, ordering online just can’t be beat. I love Tarte products and this bronzer has become one of those products I don’t leave home without (if I’m sleeping over someplace). In the summer, I often don’t even wear concealer or foundation. I just added a little bronzer and call it a day. I think you’ll enjoy this one, too.
facial suncreen
I am a little hyper-active when it comes to sunscreen. I might miss a morning of brushing my teeth (eek! I know! But it has happened before, and it was ok! I brushed as soon as I got home from dropping off the kids at school) I NEVER miss a day of sunscreen. I swear by the stuff. Especially because I’m so fair. My absolute favorite is CeraVe Ultra Light Moisturizing Lotion with SPF 30. I can’t even get this stuff at Sephora. It is light and simple and fabulous. I have heard amazing things about GOOP’s sunscreen and plan to try that next summer. But in the meantime, CeraVe has yet to let me down. For $13.90 when Amazon has a deal, it can’t be beat. My face doesn’t break out, which is huge! That is all I need. Well, that’s not true: I need to not burn and not break out. This stuff does the trick to solve both problems for me.
