No Buy Challenge Day 2: Mommy Goes to Target

I went to Target this week with one goal: pick up dry shampoo and hairspray.

Normally, I walk out with a few unexpected extras—things I didn’t plan to buy but suddenly needed. Here’s what I actually came home with:

Not too bad… but not perfect either.

Rethinking My Target Habit

Whenever I go to Target, my favorite place to wander is the home decor section.
I love seeing the new throw pillows, fresh colors, and trendy patterns.

But this time, I didn’t even walk through that part of the store.
Because of the No Buy Challenge, I knew browsing would tempt me, and I didn’t need that!

As I thought about what I missed while skipping my favorite section, a new idea sparked:
Maybe it’s not the pillows I crave—maybe I just love art.

Maybe instead of wandering through stores, I could spend more time in art galleries.
I can’t exactly afford to bring home a Monet, but soaking up color, pattern, and creativity might scratch the same itch—without spending anything.

Questioning Small Purchases

I did second-guess one thing: the book for my daughter.
She asked for it, and I gave in easily.
After all, anything that encourages her love of reading feels like a worthy investment.

Still, maybe next time we could head to the local library instead?

How About You?

When was your last Target run?
Did you notice any shifts in your habits—or are impulse buys still winning?
