I’ve officially made it to Day 5 of my 90-Day No Buy Challenge. While five days might not seem like a major milestone (hello, 85 more to go), the small insights I’ve gained already feel significant. The biggest one?
I’m starting to know myself—and that always brings me peace.
Let’s Talk About “Need” vs. “Want”
In the past, I didn’t think twice about tossing random extras into my cart—whether it was more shampoo than I needed, yet another water bottle, or a cute outfit for the kids. Now, those things feel…less meaningful.
I’ve caught myself really considering the difference between a want and a need. Wanting is often fleeting, momentary.
But needing? That’s rooted in something deeper.
Do I need another candle? Another lip balm? Another cute throw pillow?
No.
Do I need space to breathe, time to reflect, and quiet moments that reconnect me with myself?
Absolutely.
And the more time I spend mindlessly shopping feels like less time on those peaceful moments.
What I Said No To Today

Today’s test came in the form of a friend offering me lavender lotion—a big YES in my book. I love lavender. I love lotion. The combination? A slice of heaven.
But I paused.
And then, I politely said no.
And surprisingly… I felt guilty.
That guilt caught me off guard. Why should saying no to a purchase—even a small one—make me feel like I was letting someone down?
I realized I sometimes equate purchasing with politeness, connection, or even loyalty. But I don’t want to carry that narrative anymore. My value—and my friendships—aren’t dependent on how much I spend.
What I’m Really Gaining
This challenge isn’t just about avoiding the checkout button. It’s about building a life of intention. And with every day that passes, I’m recognizing just how much peace there is in saying no. Not from a place of lack, but from a place of clarity.
✨ I’m learning.
✨ I’m unlearning.
✨ I’m discovering who I am beneath the noise of consumerism.
And honestly? I’m excited to see what Day 6 brings.
Have you tried a no buy challenge—or even just a mindful spending pause?
Drop a comment or send me a message. I’d love to hear what you’re discovering, too.
