Wait, What Are Chakras?

Have you ever heard of the Solar Plexus Chakra?

For the longest time, I heard the word “chakra,” but didn’t really know much about it.

Do you pronounce it Cha-cruh?

Or is it “shhaa-krahhh?”

Spoiler Alert: No one notices how you pronounce it most of the time. It’s all good.

It wasn’t until my yoga teacher training that I finally understood what all the hype was about.

Chakras are energy centers in the body. A translation for the word “chakra” means “wheel.” Each of the 7 chakras is seen as a round, swirling ball of energy, located pretty directly around each of the major organ systems within the body.

When I picture the chakras, I think about concentrations of energy that flow from the top of my head down to the spine. I think of all the blood and energy flowing through me to support life. My brain, my thyroid, my heart, my stomach, you get the picture.

Solar Plexus Chakra Location and Meaning

Today, I’m thinking about the Solar Plexus, which is located in the upper abdomen, above the naval, just below the rib cage. When I think of the phrase “gut instincts,” I envision and feel this part of the body.

The primary color of the solar plexus is yellow — bright like the sun. This chakra represents personal power, confidence, and inner fire. That fire represents transformation, digestion (both physical and emotional), drive, and action.

How Energy Impacts Feelings

The solar plexus governs self-esteem, personal power, discipline, confidence, and decision-making. When it’s balanced, you feel capable and decisive. When it’s out of balance, you might struggle with insecurity, control issues, or low motivation.

Physical Associations

It’s connected to the digestive system — stomach, liver, pancreas, and metabolism. Many traditions link chronic digestive tension or “nervous stomach” feelings to chakra imbalances here.

Solar Plexus Chakra Meditation for Confidence

For today’s meditation, let’s keep it simple. Breathe deeply, as always, and repeat the phrase:

“I am grounded in my personal power. I am confident, disciplined, and capable.”

If you’re looking for another way to connect to the solar plexus, consider an E note singing bowl, which you can easily find online. The resonance of the note can help to unblock an imbalanced chakra. CLICK HERE for a link.

Namaste. Every. Day.
